Aileen Ionescu-Somers

Aileen Ionescu-Somers, Director CSL Learning Platform

IMD Global Center For Sustainability Leadership

Dr. Aileen Ionescu-Somers holds a first class honours BA, MA, Higher Diploma in Education and Ph.D (Commerce) from NUI -National University of Ireland. She also holds an MSc in environmental management from Imperial College London, UK. She directs the CSL Learning Platform - a corporate membership-driven initiative that is part of IMD’s Global Center for Sustainability. Dr. Ionescu-Somers has conceived, designed and supervised several large scale research projects on building/rolling out sustainability strategies, managing the stakeholder environment, and creating effective corporate sustainability partnerships. She has authored related books such as Business logic for sustainability: A food and beverage industry perspective and Sustainability partnerships: The manager’s handbook. She has particular expertise on strategic sustainability/innovation in the global food & beverage industry, and in 2013 co-authored: the world’s first Practitioner’s Guide to the Sustainable Sourcing of Agricultural Raw Materials, a publication that was jointly launched by seven global organizations, including IMD. Previously, she worked for the conservation NGO WWF, where she first held several project and program management posts on major conservation programs in Africa/Madagascar and Latin America/Caribbean, before heading WWF’s global project operations unit, overseeing operations of field and policy projects globally.

Alain Commissaire

Alain Commissaire, CEO

Cristal Union

Graduate of ENSIA National Food Science Engineering School and ICG Control Management Institute, Alain Commissaire began his career at the sugar refinery of Corbeilles-en-Gâtinais (150 km from Paris) in 1976. He took an active part in Cristal Union Group launch. He is CEO of the Group since its inception. He is also Chairman of CristalCo Board, the commercial subsidiary of the Group for sugar, alcohol, ethanol, etc. Married, 60 years old, father of two children.

Alan Hiltner

Alan Hiltner, Executive Vice-President


Alan Hiltner was trained in Economics at the Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA) and has a Master’s from there as well. Alan was vice-president for Planning and Development at Braskem. Before that, he founded and directed FTE, a Brazilian college of Law and Administration, and acted as president of an incubator for new businesses.

Alex Michine

Alex Michine, CEO


Alex is serial entrepreneur in Life Science Industry, Founder and CEO of MetGen. Metgen, a creator of novel industrial enzymes for biofuel and pulp and paper industries, has been honoured as an innovative company in several European forums. Alex’s leadership expertise in managing high-tech R&D and business efforts has been demonstrated in both development-stage and large-scale organizations.
